The Studio Ghibli Kiki’s Delivery Service “Tending the Store” (Bakery Counter) Perpetual Calendar is a detailed, three-dimensional diorama that brings the iconic Gutiokipanja Bakery from the film to life.
Visual Design & Scenery
-
- The Counter Scene: The centerpiece of the diorama is the wooden bakery counter. Kiki stands behind the desk wearing her signature dark blue dress and red hair bow. Her black cat, Jiji, is perched right next to her on the counter, looking forward.
- Miniature Breads and Pastries: The diorama is densely detailed with miniature props. In front of Kiki are wicker baskets stacked with tiny, realistic loaves of bread, baguettes, and croissants.
- The Background Elements: Behind the counter, the piece includes details like the bakery’s cash register, storage crates, and shelves holding even more baked goods, successfully capturing the cozy, European-style atmosphere of the movie.
How the Calendar Works
-
- Interchangeable Dice: The date is tracked manually using four numeric and calendar blocks made to look like wooden cubes.
- Character Blocks: In addition to the days and months, the set includes special custom blocks featuring character silhouettes and illustrations (like the delivery broom or bakery sign). These can be rotated or placed into the slots to change up the display.
- Perpetual Setup: Because it relies entirely on physical cubes rather than a specific yearly layout, you can adjust it every morning to use it indefinitely.
Material & Dimensions
- Build Quality: It is sculpted primarily from heavy, high-quality polyester resin and PVC, giving it the sturdy weight of a collectible figurine rather than a standard plastic toy.
- Size: It is designed as a compact desk accessory, measuring approximately 11.5 cm (width) x 11.6 cm (height) x 7.0 cm (depth).
